Activity #11 - Texturize me!
Mar. 4th, 2018 11:44 am
I've been meaning to do a texture activity for a while, and
Your textures have to be at least 100x100 in size and match one of these prompt pairs:
+ Frame |
+ Gradient |
+ Vibrant |
+ Muted |
+ Spots |
+ Monochrome |
+ Angles |
+ Primary Color |
+ Pattern |

* You can make as many textures as you like
* You may make more than one texture (or even all of them) for the same prompt pair
* Note that it is explicitly allowed to make textures larger than 100x100
* Please submit your textures (and URLs!) to this post, all in one comment (if possible).
* If there are more textures than you would like to submit to a comment, you can submit them to the
* Everyone can participate, you don't have to be a member of this community.
Deadline: extended by one day until Sunday, March 25 2018, your end-of-day

I made these from fabric samples, and screencaps mostly. Star trek discovery had some particularly nice lights. Wonder Woman was also very helpful, and I used screen layers, vibrance, softlight and some sharpening/blur to get some more effects.
posted a whole lot here if anyone is interested

...This was my first time even attempting to make textures myself. I used a combination of screencaps and promotional art with a bunch of color/flares/saturation/blur techniques. This was definitely an interesting challenge for me since it was really out of my wheelhouse!

The nature and pattern ones I made from photographs I took (the patterns are from my pottery), and I quoted this poem on the first two text ones. The frames I just made by messing around in GIMP until I got something I liked.
And some more (not all of which ended up fitting the prompts):

Date: 2018-03-25 01:24 pm (UTC)I'm not a fan of mixed sets.
Ha, yes, I made several sets for the same reason.
Do I even have the right idea of what people find useful?
IKR? I started out using only 100x100 textures, but the longer I'm making icons, the more I am now starting to prefer larger textures that I can move around and place exactly the way I want them around the subject. They both have advantages, I guess.
p.s.: I hope it's okay if I post examples from the set in the roundup post?

Hoo boy, am I a texture noob! It was a really fun challenge though and I ended up with a lot more than these, they just don't fit the bingo plate (I'm gonna post them tomorrow).

Making textures is a completely different skill set, isn't it? I'm glad you enjoyed the change!
I especially like the grunge one, the first two patterns, and the first shape.
