Activity #45 - Happy New Year
Jan. 3rd, 2021 03:22 pm
Oookay, the majority of participants in our little poll voted for doing progression posts and remakes first. So here we go!
1) ICON PROGRESSION
Tell us what icons you made
Tell us about your progress, your fandoms, your ideas and techniques. What changed over the course of the year?
If you want, you can make resolutions about your iconmaking: what you would like to do this year, techniques you want to try, goals you want to achieve.
There are quite a few progression posts from the previous years by now, in which you can look for ideas how to go about it:

Here are some more examples of what they might look like:

If you want to use pre-made layout codes, here are some (the posts also contain more links to other progression posts) :

* You can post your progression/resolution posts as new posts directly to this comm
* If you post(ed) a progression post to your journal, you can make a new post here and link to your journal
* If you have more than 5 icons in your post, put them under a cut
* Note: you must be a member of this community to be able to post
Deadline: any time you want! These things take time. Post them to the community any time you like!
2) ICON REMAKES
The LJ version of the
* Leave a comment in the thread below and link your icon posts/tag/comm
* People can choose icons for you to remake (2 or 3 is a good amount)
* You can also choose icons for yourself to remake
* They must pick an icon that you made some time in 2020
* How you choose to remake it is up to you. You can use the same cap, the same kind of crop or color scheme, the same emotion you were going for. It is up to you to define what "remake" means!
* Feel free to explain your thought process when you post the icons
Deadline: January 23rd 2021 - I will make a roundup post for the remakes - but of course you can do them later, too, if you can't finish them in three weeks. No pressure. <3
3) ICON FEEDBACK/CONCRIT
A new addition this year: when this comm was new, there was a concrit/feedback thread on every post, but it wasn't used by many people, so I stopped making them. In case you do miss getting feedback on your icons, there's a concrit/feedback thread in this post again!
Have fun, and be nice!
Re: 2) REMAKES
Date: 2021-01-20 04:27 pm (UTC)For the first one, I wanted to clean up the background, to make the text easier to read. Even though I liked the effect the yellow lines gave, they took focus away from Daisy. And the font I used just didn't work as well as I wanted it to. There's also the schematic for the fuse box on the door and it looks weird once the image is icon sized. SO I tried a couple different options to cover the background and make the text easier to read. I selected a different font that I feel works better and is easier to read in a small size.
The second one, that final product was honestly a happy accident. I was playing around trying to cover the glitch made from cutting out a large portion of the center of the image. But it also came out very blue/purple and while it works and I like it, it wasn't my intention. SO I played with the coloring some more and got it to look more natural. I took the texture off (while keeping the background masked to hide the glitch) and added text.
Re: 2) REMAKES
Date: 2021-01-20 04:36 pm (UTC)I love the second result of the Firewall icon! You managed everything you set out to do. She's really well visible now, and the new font still looks computer-y and retro, so definitely a good choice. Its placement is very good and doesn't distract from the image. I really like it all around! I like the first one, too, it's already better readable than the original, but going all the way without background really works best for me here.
The second one turned out gorgeous as well! The coloring is great and everything is clear and crisp - the original one looks a little like they're standing in pouring rain. :D I really love the text, too. The font looks medieval, fitting for the horse. I especially love the text on the first one, it sounds so earnest.
Those are really cool results! Thanks for playing!

Date: 2021-01-20 05:15 pm (UTC)The text on the first Artax icon is pulled from the book, the second one is what I remember it being in the movie.
