We haven't had a friending meme since this community first opened, and someone asked if we could have another one. Of course we can! Here we go:

I also prefer a medium crop. Too close or too far just aren't right.
1. Is it an eternal struggle to not hate your icons (based on the great stuff others make) or can you grow out of it?
I grew out of it. I found my "style" (so to speak) and decided that my icons were good enough. I used to see other people's icons that were so much prettier and end up hating my own stuff, but the more icons I made the more confident I got. I still see gorgeous icons and feel like mine could never compare, but I don't let it bother me.
2. When keeping the cap background, what's your prefered way of dealing with caps that are smaller than the icon?
It depends on the background - if it's mostly uniform (like the sky or something), I generally fill it in with that colour and blend it a little bit to avoid an edge. For icons of people in rooms, if it's possible, I use the clone tool to extend the background to the edge of the icon. If those two don't work because the background is too random/varied, I just frame the icon (using a brush or texture).
3. How do you feel about screencapped.net's new way of offering caps?
I went there the other day after a long absence and I kind of hate it? On the other hand, websites cost money and time and I'm grateful people are capping things, so I don't feel like I have any room to complain. (But yeah, not a fan.)
