Favorite Movie: Trainspotting, hands down. And MCU for big fandoms.
Favorite Character: Right now, it's Vanessa Ives.

What are your personal picks for the top 5-10 icons that you've made in the last 12 months?

What has inspired you over the last 12 months? (techniques, subjects, challenges, other makers, etc.) Provide examples if you want.
Inspiration is my big problem atm! I have zero ideas. So er, good screencaps, cool challenge themes (the "difficult screencaps" over at the7days on LJ, 20muses, monthlyinspo really helped). Since I have no complex composition ideas these days, I'm trying to focus on improving my cropping skills. And looking at old inspiration folders with nostalgia and trying to emulate the styles of a few years back just for fun.

What's your favorite show and/or movie to icon and why?
Doctor Who, because I work well with the caps and I always seem to have ideas. Also way back when I was super into Once Upon a Time, that show really inspired me as well, for the same reasons (good caps and tons of ideas).

Who's your favorite character to icon and why?
The Twelfth Doctor, because PCap's face is so expressive you could icon almost every single shot of him. And he had so many good moments and quotes, it's easy to have icon ideas.

Close crop or far-crop? Why?
Far crop, I love negative space. (I actually love close crops but I'm terrible at executing them myself.)

Vibrant or muted? Why?
Vibrant! I love a good muted and natural icon, but I'm here for all the colours!

Text or minimalistic? Why?
Text, I love quotes and creative text arrangements.

What's your current iconmaking goal?
Getting my mojo back! Be better at cropping and making complex icons again. Also I experimented with the flat vintage look and I don't think it's really my thing, so working on remastering my old glowy style, haha.

Yay, friending meme! Also this is me trying to engage with the DW community, I'm so glad there is one but I keep forgetting to check my f-list here. *facepalm*

1) Are there fandoms you'd like to see more icons of?

Always the one I'm currently in, so Guardian! ;D But in general, no. I don't even look at icons much, except for other challenge participants and the makers I follow because they're awesome. And when I need example icons for my challenge comms.

But I don't really mind what exactly everyone icons - I don't think I've shared a fandom with another maker in ages. It's always the exception when I do recognize something.

2) Any shows you love but never icon because the caps are too hard to work with?

I wouldn't say "love", but Teen Wolf. Terrible cinematography, terrible lighting, everything way too dark or backlit. Um. That sounds worse than it feels while watching the show. It is atmospheric, I'll grant them that. But it describes my pain when trying to make TeeWo icons.

3) Who was the first maker who really inspired you, if you can remember them?

I have no idea who got me into iconmaking, that was over a decade ago. But the first one I friended was lil_art, I think.

Haha, I've seen there are available screencaps? So if I get into it I'll make icons. (Also I'll have a requests post up soon, so if you want any ;))

I made all my Guardian caps myself.

I did share some (from eps 1-10) at iconbattles, where I am currently running the Guardian battle. (Wanna join?)

Did you see any others? I could link them there, as well, because mine are just a pitiful collection of closeups of Shen Wei. :)

I found them extremely hard. But I only watched one half-season, and maybe it was darker than some others.

As fandoms are pretty dead here and on LJ, I can say that about most of my fandoms.

2) Any shows you love but never icon because the caps are too hard to work with?
I tend to try anyway. Old shows, which only exist low-res are a pain in the ass. Or dark caps that are impossible to fix.

Yep! Even S1 of Doctor Who is kinda hard to work with. I'd like to make icons of the shows I loved during the 90's, like SG1, but the quality of the caps is off-putting... Kudos to you for trying anyway! I tend to focus on easily iconnable stuff, with the exception of Spooks, probably.

I used to hate early Supernatural caps, because it was so dark and the contrast too high. If you want to really torture yourself, try Classic Who!

I used to be really into early NCIS and the caps were horrible. Very orange-y and at the time I didn't have the skills to un-orange everyone's faces. :p

3) Who was the first maker who really inspired you, if you can remember them?
I honestly can't remember the name, but it was someone from the CSI fandom back in, 2005-ish. I was really into CSI (and some CSI NY) and eventually started making my own icons because I kept seeing this persons lovely icons.

Sometimes it feels like if it's not American, it's not important enough for people to cap/icon (when really it's probably just not well-known enough).

True, there is some of that. Some British shows are/were pretty popular in iconning circles (Misfits, Being Human, Merlin, Ashes to Ashes...) but not so much in recent years, and I only know of one fellow French icon maker who sometimes icons French shows!

Are there fandoms you'd like to see more icons of?
Sad there wasn't more The Americans and Bates Motel when those were airing. Right now, I want more Killing Eve, Harlots, GLOW, Supergirl, and I feel there's few new Star Wars icons about considering it's an ongoing source? Like, the MCU has tons of stuff every time a new movie hits, and a steady trickle in between.

I mostly find I have this issue with movies. Or maybe it's that I just take the time to work it out with shows. Idk. Some shows certainly click a lot easier than others though.

Who was the first maker who really inspired you, if you can remember them?
I think navras_rheya, letsey_x, flatlined, motirized, and mouthfullofdust were some of the earliest? My brain is a sieve lol.

I have no idea why I didn't watch Penny Dreadful sooner - it was basically the perfect show for me and I fell in love with Vanessa. <3

Out of all of these I've only watched Killing Eve, so I'm definitely iconning that soon. Some shows do fly under the radar icon-wise, don't they? I always wonder why some are so popular and others not.

Some shows do fly under the radar icon-wise, don't they? I always wonder why some are so popular and others not.

I think part of it is if there's a big, active fandom for it - meaning there's both a need for icons and also stuff happening around the fandom that keeps it current, including icontests. And then when pretties start happening, other people are inspired to make the pretties hehe.

I do see you talking about things now getting a lot of love, like Brit crime dramas, French shows, etc. We should get an Un-American and Un-Loved icon battle going ;D

I don't remember the very first makers but around that time I'd seen icons by
mei_ling7 and ryfee and while these weren't the exact icons,in general their icons were so unique,I wondered what magic they'd use to make them. :)

First of all , I'm a real fan of your icons ! I find them super pretty. I love vibrant icons, and the complexity and depth you bring is super cool.
Also, you and I are great minds and we think alike ! :D I'm a MCU addict and my current fav character is Vanessa Ives too ! O-o
I can get what you're trying to say , because at times I terribly suffer from lack of creative complexity ideas. Then I just cheat and go for simple icons by super close crop and hoping that I get the coloring right ! :3

Stranger things . Also , more icons of horror based movies and shows in general , because I'm a Goth and horror freak .
Not part of fandom. But I'd really love to see talented people making more stock icons.

I don't watch Stranger Things, though it looks pretty good and maybe I should give it a go! And you're right re stock icons. I never even consider making them, but they're fun to use, maybe I could make some :)
