Lets talk about icons again!

1) ICON PROGRESSION

Tell us what icons you made this year, select the best/the most extraordinary/the most representative, and tell us about them.

Tell us about your progress, your fandoms, your ideas and techniques. What changed over the course of the year?

If you want, you can make resolutions about your iconmaking: what you would like to do this year, techniques you want to try, goals you want to achieve.

2) ICON REMAKES

Since I've only seen two of us in the LJ version of the bestof_icons remake activity, I'm offering it here, too for anyone who'd like to play:

* Leave a comment in the thread below and link your icon posts/tag/comm
* People can choose icons for you to remake (2 or 3 is a good amount)
* You can also choose icons for yourself to remake
* They must pick an icon that you made some time in 2018
* How you choose to remake it is up to you. You can use the same cap, the same kind of crop or color scheme, the same emotion you were going for. It is up to you to define what "remake" means!
* Feel free to explain your thought process when you post the icons

Deadline: January 19th 2019 - I will make a roundup post for the remakes

ha, omg. i have no idea what happened to these. (I am currently looking back through the comm for icon remake result posts, but I think I never made one. But I found this comment and now realize I also did not make any icons. /o\)

(I actually did remake the T'Pol icon, but not the other two.)

If anyone wants to pick icons of mine for me to remake, I'll give it a try! Sounds fun.

Find them at my icon tag or icon index (ctrl+f for 2018). (A few of the Rackham and Zixi icons are actually from the year before, if that matters to you.)

For completeness' sake few otherwise unposted icons can be found in my progression post. (Everything in there is definitely from 2018, although there's relatively little.)

Yours are so hard to choose because they're all comic scans, so you'd probably have to go back and rescan... sounds like a lot of work! O_o

But if that doesn't bother you... how about these? For that one set, you suggested redoing the text, so I pounced on that. :D

Hah, well, for one thing I tend to keep my old scans and for another a lot of them I didn't scan myself in the first place... So it's not really a big problem. :)

I came up with two for icon #1—one recrop because the edges on the original were bothering me, and one where I used the color version of teh art instead.



For #2, I think the text works a little better smaller:



And on #3... I had trouble narrowing that one down.

I like these a lot! The new crop(s) of the first one are definitely better! I like that there's some lines in the lower right corner, too, now, which balances it out better. (the colored version just neatly avoids that problem altogether :D)

I also think the small text works better! And it doesn't look as pixelated.

I love the last (closest) crop of the third. Muahaha! The cat really comes out best in that and the negative space works excellently, there, too.

Haha, well, I don't have much progression to report because I only just started trying out making icons again now that I'm back on Dreamwidth, and I only ever dabbled in icons in the past (and I'm pretty sure I don't even have any of those old icons saved anywhere...) soooo this is a fresh start! n.n;;

But I did post a random assortment at iconthat here so, mm, that's something!

So I spent an entire day trying to remember what icons I may have posted in 2018 and I came to the uncomfortable realization that I posted only very, very few icons. I finished the Librarians icon challenge I was doing in May and that was it. So maybe making more icons should be my resolution for 2019. *g*

Anyway, I can't really see much of a progression in my icons. These are some of the first Librarians icons I posted in April/May 2017:


And some of the last ones that I posted in May 2018:


I've been making icons for over a decade and I feel very settled in my style. It makes all my icons look kind of the same and I do have things I prefer (like fake backgrounds, warm colouring, no text or just minimal text, etc.), so maybe I need to branch out more? Try new things? IDK.

Thanks. I think I need to put an evening aside for graphics making. Or maybe sign up for another challenge. It's always easier when you have a goal or a deadline.
