Our First Activity - Got Fandom?

By popular request, there are going to be icon challenges in this community. Since I don't like the word "battle", and there is really nothing competitive about them, I'm going to call them "activities".

These activities will work like this:

* I make a post with all the information you need
* You have three weeks to make icons and post them in a comment to the information post (not screened)
* I collect all the icons (and whatever you have to say about them) from the comments and make a result post
* There is no voting
* Everyone can leave comments on the inspiration and activity summary posts

My current plan is to run one such activity per month, but we'll see how it goes and if you even like what I come up with.

But now, on to our first activity! What better way to get to know each other than by showing each other what fandoms we like:



For this activity, you should make five icons. You have until May 20th (end of day) to submit your icons as comments to this post.



1 - First Love

Icon your first fandom! This can be any fandom that you remember as a "first" - the first one you ever saw, or the first one you ever got fannish about, the first one you ever iconned, or the one that first connected you with other fans.

2 - Current Obsession

Icon the fandom that currently excites you most! It doesn't have to be a current fandom in that it has to be new or currently airing. It just has to be the fandom you want to icon most right now!

3 - Biggest Fandom

Icon the fandom that for you was the biggest fandom. We all know those popular fandoms everyone is iconning, there are thousands of fics, and even years later, activity is still high. If you have never been part of one of those huge fandoms, it can be the one you made the most icons of in your life, or the one for which you know the most fans.

4 - Tiny Fandom

Icon the fandom that you feel like nobody has seen but more people should have! Make an icon that makes us want to watch it! Show us what we missed.

5 - True Love

Icon the fandom that has stuck with you the longest. The one you will love forever, no matter what canon throws (or threw) at you. If you have no such fandom - because all fandoms inevitably dissappoint you ;) - you can choose to interpret this "love" theme to be about a favorite couple instead: icon a pairing you love.

Some notes:

* It is okay to enter fewer than five icons (but the final results post will look nicer if every slot is filled :)).

* You don't have to icon five different fandoms. If your first fandom happens to be a tiny fandom and your true love, no problem!

I made it! Phew. *wipes brow*

1) First Love

I started out with a classic: Star Trek TOS. I'm still a big fan, and get very nostalgic about these characters and the universe.



2) Current Obsession

With The Thick of It, I've recently stumbled into a tiny, mostly dead fandom. It's so clever, though, and hilarious, and there's great fic! If you're into political satire and swearing, you should check it out. To get the joke in this icon, it's useful to know that the character shown a) is named Malcolm Tucker, and b) is known for swearing a lot.



3) Biggest Fandom

I've been in a number of big ones, but the one that felt most overwhelming was Supernatural. It was also extremely frustrating, not so much due to the fandom, but due to the canon. Over time, Donna and Jodi became my favorites, despite the fact that they're side characters, so I've iconed those two.




4) Tiny Fandom

I have to admit, I'm not really very active in the Sense8 fandom, but the show is utterly delightful and should be watched by more people. Depicted is my second favorite character, Lito Rodriguez, drunk-texting his boyfriend Hernando Fuentes (my favorite character) after they temporarily break up. It's an adorable scene. <3



5) True Love

I always come back to Doctor Who. It was difficult to choose whom or what to icon here, because there are so many characters. In the end, I went with the single one consistent motive in the show.

Ooooh, so many good ones! Love the TOS icon! Jodi and Donna are such great choices! That bathtub scene of Lito's is hilarious. I think was spoiled for it by icons of all things. :D Currently starting on s2, weee!

I love what you did with the Tardis icon! The slight grunge in the blue texture, and the hint of space on the (bigger) inside by using that cut-off Gallifreyan script... awesome.

Thank you! And yesss I'm also currently making my way through s2 of Sense8. Such a cute show!

I have to admit, I didn't really like the TARDIS icon right after finishing it. Something didn't feel right about it. But the longer I look at it, the more I enjoy it. I'm glad it works for you! :D

A ha ha, Lito in the hot tub, I remember that scene! What a great crop, and I love the broken heart speech bubble.

Aww, thank you! :D I love that scene so much, it's probably my favorite from season 1.
