So apparently I still can make icons I'm happy with! \o/
I think I've found my new thing: making collage icons that don't look like it. I've wanted to icon this moment probably since the first time I've watched it. But in the shot where the initials are shown, Alex is close to the camera and with her back. So you don't see much of her and it just doesn't make for a good icon. So I capped all the best views of the whiteboard (Alex kept obscuring the text, so it needed 10 caps), made a collage (only 2 of the caps aren't visible in the final product) and put a more representative Alex from that scene in front of the board.
Took me some time getting used to the invisible-collage thing, because it felt like cheating, ha! This is manip territory and I'm more of an adjuster.
This icon was the first step. The moment where the hug looked best wasn't iconable by itself, because the Doctor's head was moving. But the hug was so sweet and I really wanted to icon it! So I dared to use the Doctor's head from a moment a few frames away from the main cap.
The next step was using more than 2 caps: Took me 4 to put Jackie together, because in the main cap she was holding up an unsightly cigarette, so I needed a replacement shoulder. And a replacement neck, to make the shadow of her removed arm go away. And the main cap wasn't showing enough of the top of her head.
