Imgur Terms of Service Update

Imgur will change its terms of service on May 15.

The part that is probably most relevant for people in the icon community:

 

"We will be focused on removing old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account from our platform [...]"

Personally, I use Imgur without logging in for most icon challenges or posting pictures to my journal. How do you go about it? Is everything neatly sorted into folders? Or do you, like me, just use the site for random uploads?

Oh, sh*t. That sound like everything I ever uploded will be gone...I think I have an account there, but I don't use it. I just upload icons directly.

Ugh.... this sounds like it's gonna suck. Reminds me of old icons with the Photobucket watermark on them from LJ only in this case I guess they'll just be gone?

I just started using images.squidge.org for dreamwidth stuff, but he recently made it so you have to login to upload (because somebody was being nasty)

The other one I've used is postimages.org

I always logged in to upload icons (... though I've neglected folders for a while). So I think my stuff is probably safe, but this still makes me really nervous. Better back things up!

Thanks for the head's up! I hadn't even realised you could upload without being logged in (it never seemed very happy with me unless I was), but I'll have to keep an eye out in case I lose something.

Eek :/ I think when I reuploaded all my image links from LJ scrapbook to Imgur I did so while logged in, so my own icon comm's posts should be safe but my entries in various comms from over the years will definitely be impacted because more often than not I was too lazy to log in haha.

Long story short , everything I've ever uploaded in either LJ or Dreamwidth will be gone if they take down non logged in uploads . :/ I probably had an account at some point , but I'm too lazy and I've never uploaded while logged in . So yeah , that sucks !

I think I’ll be okay as I always am logged in when I upload/use my icons. I didn’t even know you could do so without logging in (I’d always assume you had to be logged in to use the site).

I just log in on the site and once I’m logged in, I click on “New post” (which is on the left side of the top bar) where it gives you a choice of uploading the image or posting a link. After that your images are displayed on the screen and at the top is an empty space for you to type in a title for the folder (if you don’t name it then I think it just names it untitled with the date it was uploaded).

All the stuff I have uploaded is tied to an account I have there (and sorted into folders) but this image hosting thing sure is turning out to be a pain in the bum. You never know which one is gonna flake out on you -_-

I have an account, which has made everything easier to upload, as I use it sometimes for blog work, so I learnt the hard way from photobucket

I don't use imgur, myself, but I'm dreading what'll happen to all the comms. :((( 90% of people are using imgur, and I'm sure that means we'll lose most images. :(((

I guess I could try and save the ones I'm responsible for, like the halls of fame for iconcolors.
