Activity #24 Song Set

Maybe it's the advent of Spring that's making my muse run into weird directions and coming up with increasingly hard challenges... but we'll try something that used to be a staple in LJ iconmaking and that I haven't seen in over ten years:

Song sets!

A song set consists of icons with the lyrics of one song. Since it's a really old (i.e. extinct) thing, the only example icons I have are my own:


"I don't want to worry whether we're going to stay together until we die"
(Cake, "Love You Madly" lyrics)

In my set, I tried to make every single icon contain meaningful text, but that's definitely not a requirement.
I've never seen a set so large that it contained a whole song - but I won't stop you!
Apart from the text, the icons don't have to look the same or fit together in any other way.

Thanks to yourlibrarian, who made me look into songsets some more, I found another example set:

"I want a girl with a voice that is dark like tinted glass, I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket"

* Really the only rule is that the lyrics should be continuous within the song from one icon to the next.

* Every icon should contain at least one word.
* If you can't make a part of the lyrics work:
** not all words have to be readable!
** NEW: you can leave out short connecting words (like "and", "that",...)
* You can choose any song, or more than one song if you make more than one set.
* If you want to leave out parts of the lyrics, just make separate sets.

* This time there is a minimum of 2 icons: the smallest set is a set of two.
* You can make as many icons (and as many sets) as you like.
* Please link the song lyrics, and/or put the parts you used of them in your comment with your icons

* Please submit your icons (and URLs!) to this post, all in one comment (if possible).
* Everyone can participate, you don't have to be a member of this community.
* I will collect all the icons from the comments and make a result post
* Everyone can leave comments on the inspiration and activity result posts
* There is no voting

*sigh* This is the cruelest challenge. I'm still looking for songs, because there's always something disqualifiying them:

• too descriptive, would look stupid on a icon ("lips are turning blue" when the icon would show that clearly enough - like no shit, Sherlock)
• can't take the lines apart, because context gets lost when icon is viewed on its own
• some lyrics too intangible to find a cap that could describe them
• not enough doable lines in a row
• can't think of a scene for part of lyrics

I feel like the text overpowers the rest (like it usually does in my first attempts), but maybe for a set where text is the main attraction as it were, it's not quite as bad.

Niice! I like the b/w with color! My faves are the last two - Zhu Hong is very fierce with her red eyes and the cap you chose for Chu is great, too.

I love the "be something greater" for so many reasons! The way the "greater" seems to overshadow her, and her look, and the coloring. OMG.

IKR? I thought it would be really hard for everyone, but there are already so many cool results, I am very impressed. I also find it especially hard to split the lyrics in a way that makes the icons usable as standalones.

wowow, I love your text work. The lyrics are amazing, so fitting for all of them! Viscerally, I love Tyrion best (because I always love Tyrion best :) ), but the coloring is so hopeful and majestic, and he *is* a lionheart. It's also great for Ygritte, and Sansa is perfect as well.

This is just all around amazing.

Argh... Ye Zun. Those lyrics are really him. <3 I especially like the last two - the white text is the best. Also, Shen Wei in the first one, wonderful! And that cap in the second one. I've always thought it looks very intimate, and that text makes that come out really well.
